Introduction to Congestion & Extractions

4 HOURS | PRIVATE 1:1 | $895

This foundational private training is designed for professionals who want to become more confident and intentional with extractions. The session combines essential theory with hands-on application so the student understands not only how to perform an extraction, but also how to assess the skin, select an appropriate approach, recognize resistance, and know when not to proceed.

Detailed Outline

  • Understanding congestion and how it forms within the pilosebaceous unit

  • Identifying common lesions and congestion, including open and closed comedones, sebaceous filaments, milia, papules, pustules, and deeper inflammatory lesions

  • Determining what may be appropriate to extract, what requires reassessment, and what should be left alone

  • Client assessment, contraindications, precautions, and treatment considerations

  • Preparing and softening the skin for more controlled extractions

  • Extraction setup, tools, sanitation, and infection-control considerations

  • Core extraction principles: pressure, direction, stabilization, positioning, and tissue response

  • Manual/finger extraction, gauze technique, cotton-tip technique, and comedone extractor use

  • Approaching different facial areas, including the nose, chin, forehead, cheeks, and jawline

  • Recognizing when an extraction is becoming too traumatic and when to stop

  • Reducing unnecessary redness, bruising, broken skin, and risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

  • Post-extraction care and treatment-room considerations

  • Instructor demonstration as appropriate and supervised hands-on practice on one live model

  • Review, questions, and individualized feedback
